Proton pump inhibitor. Peptic ulcer assoc with H. pylori (with appropriate antibiotics); treatment, relapse prevention in reflux oesophagitis; gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD); short-term treatment of upper GI symptoms assoc with NSAIDs; treat gastric ulcers assoc with NSAIDs; prevent peptic ulcers assoc with NSAIDs; pathological hypersecretory conditions incl Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, idiopathic hypersecretion

Precautions:
Exclude malignancy; prolonged use; worsening symptoms; severe renal, hepatic impairment; pregnancy, lactation, children < 12 yrs. Prevention of peptic ulcers assoc with NSAIDs: treatment > 6 mths

Interactions:
Clarithromycin; cisapride; phenytoin; warfarin; citalopram, clomipramine, imipramine; atazanavir; poss: ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin, voriconazole
Dose:
Swallow whole or disperse in noncarbonated water. The pellets must not be chewed or crushed. Erosive reflux oesophagitis. Adults, adolescents 12-18 yrs. Treatment: 40 mg once daily for 4-8 wks. Maintenance: 20 mg once daily. GORD (endoscopy normal). Adults, adolescents 12-18 yrs: 20 mg once daily for 4 wks, then 20 mg once daily, as needed. H. pylori assoc duodenal, peptic ulcer. Adults: 20 mg twice daily for 7 days, in combination with appropriate antibiotics, Ask your Phamacist for more details. Upper GI symptoms assoc with NSAIDs. Adults: 20 mg once daily; investigate further if symptom control inadequate after 4 wks. Gastric ulcers assoc with NSAIDs, treatment. Adults: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wks. Peptic ulcers assoc with NSAIDs, prevention. Adults: 20 mg once daily. Pathological hypersecretory conditions. Adults: initially 40 mg twice daily, adjust as needed; max 120 mg twice daily
